This was my first experience of independent practice and I needed someone experienced and knowledgeable who could offer support and guidance around the business, clinical practice, and professional development elements of the new role. I was looking for someone who understood the pitfalls and benefits of independent practice, but also who was approachable, easy to talk to, and encouraged new experiences and skills
Kate is very personable. There is no question too silly to ask and she will provide an honest reply and encourage personal and professional reflection as part of the process of supervision. Kate encouraged to keep a log of the positive moments and achievements in practice to keep the imposter syndrome at bay. I still do this now.
I feel more in control of business negotiations – I still have a lot to learn and this is an area I struggle with but the sensitive support and encouragement and space for reflection in supervision sessions is enabling me to build on this on a regular basis.

I needed support with caseload issues and safeguarding concerns, and it was agreed that this would be provided externally. I had carried out some Mental Health First Aid training with Kate and remembered that she carried out supervision so got in contact.
Kate is approachable, confidential, good listener, experienced, able to advise and suggest different perspectives. Kate is interested in me as a person and well as the role that I do. Kate listens without judgement and offers solutions or ideas to try. When working on my own it is this kind of support that is valuable.
Being really heard is very powerful and impactful and even though we have only had a few sessions the way Kate actively listens is impactful and helpful in terms of development.
I have gained confidence in asking for help and connecting with others for support, for example Kate asked if I had considered connecting with other professionals doing a similar role to me as a form of support. I attended a working lunch virtual meeting for managers within the voluntary sector and found it useful, I wouldn’t have thought of this without Kate suggesting it.
